Launch of the #WomenCall: WIDU and WoMENA join forces to empower women entrepreneurs in Tunisia

On July 1, the #WomenCall, a new offer to support women entrepreneurs, was launched exclusively and for the first time in Tunisia. Co-funded by WoMENA and the WIDU.africa projects, the “Women Call” aims at strengthening the economic empowerment of women in Tunisia and facilitate their inclusion within the Tunisian entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The #WomenCall is one of the many entrepreneurial support tools developed on the WIDU.africa platform. Initiated in September 2022, the Local Call facilitates access to financing for African entrepreneurs by following specific themes tailored to their challenges and needs face. The specificity of this instrument lies in the fact that entrepreneurs don’t require the commitment of a diaspora member, unlike in the original WIDU grant. The #WomenCall launched on July 1st in Tunisia represents the latest addition to the program. In collaboration with GIZ’s WoMENA project, we firmly believe that women play a crucial role for Tunisia’s economic development. The #WomenCall aims at achieving this goal, by providing resources women need to grow their businesses and become actors of change in their communities.

This new instrument should facilitate efforts to tackle the structural and financial challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in developing their businesses, and positively impact on their role in society. A particular focus will lie on supporting women entrepreneurs in marginalized, rural, regions of Tunisia, as well as on sectors traditionally dominated by men. The support thereby seeks to create decent jobs, particularly for vulnerable populations, and improving working conditions for women.

Targeting women entrepreneurs -founders and managers of their own businesses-, and who have already been formalized or are in the process of being formalized, the #WomenCall provides a grant of up to 16,500 TND, as well as individual, personalized coaching provided by WIDU’s partner -Redstart Tunisie. The coaching will also seek to address gender-specific barriers women entrepreneurs widely continue to face in their entrepreneurial endeavors. The call for participation will close on July 31.
