For GIZ, the promotion of gender equality is not only a commitment, but a guiding principle and a quality feature of its work.
GIZ Rwanda, through the One Mainstreaming Team is organizing a Gender Month, which is dedicated to reflect on gender equality, the role of women and girls, as well as to take stock of the remaining gaps to be addressed.
Activities encompass discussions in the programs on the topic of “Changing Gender Roles in Household”, a poster competition with a winning program to be selected during a final celebration.
The topic “Changing Gender Roles in Household” is framed within the global theme for the International Women’s Day 2019 “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” and also within the Rwandan national theme “Together, let’s build a safe family”.
Watching Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “We should all be feminists” and guiding questions for the reflection and discussion, will drive the topic of gender roles in families and at household level. The sessions will be organised by Gender Focal Points and Peer Educators, supported by the One Mainstreaming Team.
Inspired by the discussions each program is then asked to create a poster, which will be illustrated by photos and text related to the topic of “Changing gender roles in household”. The posters should respond to the criteria of relevance to the topic and originality. It should attract attention and have an interesting design with a clear message.
All programs will present their developed posters during the final event. The ‘winner program’ with the best poster will be awarded as GIZ Rwanda Gender Champion 2019 and the Poster will be displayed in all GIZ offices.
The competition promises to be full of creativity and action!
