Intersectionality 101-South Africa and Lesotho context
Mainstream conversations around gender equality have traditionally centralized just that: gender. In order to keep abreast with current strategies to promote gender equality it is important to recognise gender’s interaction with race, class, ability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion and the multiple identities that affect our everyday lives and experiences. We will be unpacking concepts of intersectionality as a framework for project implementation and the working environment.
As novelist Chimamanda Adichie articulates “our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories’, she warns that if we hear only a single story about persons, we risk a critical misunderstanding.
