GIZ Bangladesh Celebrates International Women’s Day and Gender Month 2025

The GIZ Bangladesh Gender Working Group has organised a series of events in commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) and Gender Month 2025.  This year the slogan is Rights, Equality, and Empowerment for ALL.

Colleagues wore purple and took pictures holding placards with statements on gender rights and empowerment. The pictures are on display on GIZ Bangladesh IDA page and will remain there for the month of March 2025. The GIZ BD offices also prepared pin boards with pictures and slogans. The exercise gave staff members the opportunity to give expression to their thoughts and aspiration around gender equality.

Three online sessions were held to engage the staff members in meaningful discussion on gender issues. The first session was held on 04 March 2025 on the “Practical Approaches for Our Work! (quick and effective gender assessment for grant and subsidy recipients and for integrating gender aspects when procuring services (e.g., writing ToRs, selecting tender participants))” by Alina Moser, Gender Country Focal, GIZ Bangladesh.

The second session that followed dwelt on Gender Transformative approaches. Held on 10 March 2025, Enas Sahl, Gender Focal Person, Sustainable Economic Development, Training and Employment Cluster, delved into the principles and practices of a gender transformative approach and challenges of gender stereotypes, how to promote gender equality and create a culture of inclusivity and respect.

Finally, there was a book reading session held on 11 March. Amreen Rahman, Head of Procurement and Contracting, GIZ Office Dhaka, has just published her debut book entitled “Life as she knows it”. It is about what it truly means to be a woman in a world that demands so much yet offers so little in return. Ms Amreen talked about how her own experiences inspired her to write the book. She read some of the passages from her book to some 60 colleagues who listened to her with rapt attention.

All the sessions ended with lively discussions and question answer sessions. Overall, the series of discussion sessions held over the Gender Month allowed the GIZ Bangladesh staff members to interact and learn from each other on gender issues.
