As highlighted by the German Development Minister Svenja Schulze on the “International Menstrual Hygiene Day” in 2022, “Menstruation should not be a taboo!” Aligned with BMZ’s ‘Feminist development policy – for just and strong societies worldwide’, we aim to raise awareness of menstrual health and hygiene and its effects on the 3Rs – rights, representation and resources of women and girls – and thus, on their lives and active participation in social, political, and economic affairs. Together we will explore strategies to achieve a more inclusive workplace for everyone – in Germany and in our country offices. Drawing on insights from a pilot phase and already existing good practices at GIZ headquarters and in various country offices we will elaborate on and delve into the topic of cycle-oriented work. Our overall aim is to stimulate and facilitate a meaningful discourse about the necessity of a period-friendly corporate culture within GIZ.
