GIZ Data Lab & Data Service Center: Addressing Vulnerabilities in Climate Policies through AI-Driven Solutions
In climate policy documents, identifying references and concrete measures concerning demographic groups in vulnerable situations poses significant challenges due to the complexity and expansiveness of the text. Nevertheless, acknowledging and addressing the needs of these vulnerable groups is essential for the formulation of inclusive policies.
Therefore, we introduce an innovative application powered by AI, developed by the GIZ Data Lab and Data Service Center. This tool aims to primarily highlight paragraphs within policy documents that relate to various demographic groups facing vulnerabilities as a result of the climate crisis, while also providing short summaries of thematic focuses relevant to the demographic groups, summarized by generative AI.
Additionally, we have utilized the app to conduct a more detailed analysis of official climate documents, such as the National Determined Contributions (NDCs) from multiple East African countries, compiling automated summaries and data into an interactive report. Ultimately, the output will not only enrich stakeholders’ comprehension of climate policy documents but also serve as a crucial supporting resource for those facing disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis.
We warmly invite you to explore the utilization of AI in development cooperation, particularly its role in addressing climate-related vulnerabilities.
