From Evidence to Prevention. How to Prevent Violence against Women in Ecuadorian Universities – Video

More than a third of female professors and students in Ecuadorian universities claim have been assaulted by their (ex) partners and members of the university community. And almost a third of male students and lecturers admit having assaulted their (ex) partners. In addition, almost half of the LGBTIQ+ population report being assaulted by members of the university community.

Universities have a central role to play in preventing violence against women. Driven by the need to make visible this problem, which has remained hidden for decades, the study “From Evidence to Prevention. How to Prevent Violence against Women in Ecuadorian Universities”, was carried out by the PreViMujer project, implemented by GIZ and the San Martin de Porres University in 2021. 16 public and private universities participated with a total of 23,261 students, 4,064 lecturers and administrative staff.

The study presents a model for a comprehensive approach to the prevention of violence against women for educational units to integrate the issue into all areas of academic training.

We invite you to watch the video summarising the study.
