(Un-)Learning Gender – Responses for LGBTI Inclusion in Times of COVID-19

Exactly one year ago, on 08 March 2021, the German government adopted the LGBTI inclusion concept for foreign policy and development cooperation. With two contributions, we look at the past year and into the future: What impact did and does the COVID-19 pandemic have on LGBTI persons and organizations, and what conclusions can we draw from this for our practical work in international cooperation? The BMZ will open the event with introductory words on the LGBTI inclusion concept.  In the following interview, Dr. Julia Ehrt, Executive Director of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Inter-sex Association (ILGA World) will speak with Élysse Marchellin (Independent Researcher) about the results of the study on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on LGBTI movements worldwide, funded by BMZ and SV Human Rights. Prof. Dr. Uta Ruppert and Evelyn Schnauder from the University of Frankfurt a. M. will provide suggestions for our practical work and take a look at the possibilities and dilemmas of LGBTI promotion. They will present the research findings of the BMZ-funded study “With human rights beyond the prevailing discourse: LGBTI inclusion in development cooperation”. We look forward to exciting insights and a stimulating discussion.

Vor genau einem Jahr, am 08. März 2021, verabschiedete die Bundesregierung das LSBTI-Inklusionskonzept für die Auswärtige Politik und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Mit zwei Beiträgen schauen wir auf das vergangene Jahr und in die Zukunft: Welche Auswirkungen hatte und hat die COVID-19-Pandemie auf LSBTI-Personen und -Organisationen, und welche Schlüsse können wir für unsere praktische Arbeit in der Internationalen Zusammenarbeit daraus ziehen? Im Interview spricht Dr. Julia Ehrt, Geschäftsführerin der International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA World) mit Élysse Marchellin (Independent Researcher) zu den Ergebnissen der vom BMZ und SV Menschenrechte geförderten Studie zum Einfluss der Covid-19 Pandemie auf LSBTI Bewegungen weltweit. Auch Prof. Dr. Uta Ruppert gibt Anregungen für unsere praktische Arbeit und nimmt das doppelte postkoloniale Dilemma der LSBTI-Förderung in den Blick. Sie präsentiert die Forschungsergebnisse der vom BMZ geförderten Studie „Mit Menschenrechten über den herrschenden Diskurs hinaus: LSBTI-Inklusion in der EZ“.
