The shadow pandemic: Online and ICT*-facilitated violence against women and girls during COVID-19

When women and girls do have access to the Internet, they face online violence more often than men in many different ways. Research and activists confirm that this problem has increased during the Covid-19.

Kathryn Travers (consultant on gender equality, ending violence against women and girls for UN Women) will explain why the COVID-19 pandemic had such a negative effect on online and ICT-facilitated violence against women and girls and which measures can be taken to enhance women’s and girls’ online safety.

Henne Kirchner (SP Human Rights) and Karine Patricia Rodriguez (project for municipal development and decentralisation, Madagascar) will share what they learnt while developing strategies against ICT facilitated violence against girls in Madagascar.
