“Towards a Gender-Equal World” – Official Opening of GIZ Gender Week 2021

This year’s GIZ Gender Week will take stock of how we are dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 health and socio-economic crises at present and how best we can contribute to safe-guarding achievements made on gender equality against any deterioration and backlash.

On March 8th – the International Women’s Day – we have the honour to welcome Henriette Geiger, the Director for ‘Human Development, Migration, Governance and Peace’ of the European Commission Directorate General for International Partnerships to this year’s GIZ Gender Week.

Ms Geiger is a strong advocate of dedicating 85% of all new European Union initiatives related to foreign, security, trade and development policy to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as a primary or significant objective. In this light, Ms. Geiger will outline the EU Gender Action Plan 2021-2025 and EU policies and priorities related to gender justice, such as the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy for 2020-2025 and EU’s TEAM Europe approach and strategic engagement at country, regional and multilateral level.

Henriette Geiger, jointly with Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven, GIZ Managing Director, will officially open this year’s GIZ Gender Week and engage in the high level dialog on EU’s ambitious agenda for gender equality and women’s empowerment and its implications for GIZ. They both will draw attention to and elaborate on the importance and opportunity of addressing structural inequalities in our work and our COVID-19 responses for shaping and safeguarding a future worth living in and around the world.

Mark your calendars, on International Women’s Day, as from 2 and 3:30 pm

… to engage in an insightful and lively virtual debate, moderated by Angela Langenkamp, GIZ Gender Commissioner.
