Bangladesh Women’s Day 2019 Session: Innovation, Technology and Women’s Empowerment

On 21 March 2019, a session on “Innovation, Technology and Women’s Empowerment” was organized by the GIZ Bangladesh Gender Working Group focusing on the UN Theme for women’s day this year – “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.” All GIZ Bangladesh employees were invited to the event, and more than 100 persons attended.

The event was opened by Dr Angelika Fleddermann, Country Director, GIZ Bangladesh, with focus on presenting the new GIZ Gender Strategy. The Chief Guest and Key note Speaker at the event was Ms. Sara Zaker, renowned actor and Managing Director, Asiatic 360, also the prestigious national award holder of Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh, who shared her experiences working with arts for social and behavioral communications, especially in the field of edutainment. Marginalized children from the non-profit school UTSHO, especially inspired the GIZ staff as Special Guests, sharing their experiences of successfully completing a 10 kilometers long mini-marathon at a recent women’s day event in Dhaka this year. Moreover, a presentation on “Innovation, Technology and Women’s Empowerment” was given by GIZ employees – Mr. Faisal Rabbi, with content contribution by Mr. Maruf Kamal.

The session was moderated by GIZ Gender Working Group representatives Ms. Krishna Chanda and Ms. Mehzabin Ahmed.
