During a recent discussion, we, the Gender Focal Points of GIZ Tanzania, realized that much of our workplace continues to be shaped by gender stereotypes, including professions that are “typically male” or “typically female” and the associations that we make “male” or “female behavior” in the workplace. We would like to address theses issue and open up a discussion by engaging with the “Dar Creators” a theatre group that is specialized in Theatre of the Oppressed. Topics to be discussed include: Why do we have certain perceptions of men and women with regard to their behavior and how does that influence the professional opportunities and advancement of men and women? Why do we associate certain behaviors, especially with regard to leadership, as male or female? Which stereotypes do we have ourselves? What does a gender equal workplace look like?
